 Understanding the Word Window

Now let's get down to the actual document. When you open the Word program, you will see a blank document. If you don't see a blank document, point to File in the tool bar (tool bars are described below), and then click New. You will be presented with a dialog box that has several choices for the type of new document you want to create (Figure 1.2).

The Blank Document option will be highlighted by default. You can also select to create a new Web Page or Email Message.
