Unit 1
Reproductive System (continued)

In operative reports, sutures are dictated using phrases like, "number three oh Vicryl" OR "one oh chromic." Transcribe this as 3-0 Vicryl or 1-0 chromic according to the AAMT Book of Style. Remember to use a zero for the "0" in these phrases. The surgeon may dictate that they have used staples, stay sutures, or Steri-Strips for the skin.

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) refers to the part of the female reproductive system that has been affected, i.e., salpingitis, cervicitis. Another term for salpingitis is pyosalpinx (break down this term). Not all cases of cervicitis or salpingitis are necessarily PID. PID is usually caused by an IUD or STD. What do the abbreviations in this sentence mean? Unfortunately, PID has a social stigma to it as it is often sexually transmitted, but this disease can have other causes.
