Unit 1
Getting Started

A. Preparing To Do Transcription
  1. Gather all necessary information and materials at your workplace (reference books, CD, diskettes, etc.)
  2. Make sure you have properly installed your digital transcription equipment. The headset and foot pedal should be connected to your computer, and should be working properly. Contact GES Support (support@gatlineducation.com) if you have problems with your equipment.
  3. Verify that all equipment is operating properly.
  4. Insert the CD into your computer. Read the instructions in your study guide.(See the length of time for each dictation in the course by clicking here. This is an MS Word document, which you can print when it is open on your computer.)
  5. Adjust the volume and speed according to your needs. Different accents will do better on different speed settings. Experiment with what works best for you.
