Pull

To pull product through the entire production process in quantities and at a rate demanded by the downstream customer. Basically, if there is no demand for the product or if the demand slows, then the production line stops or slows down to meet the situation.

Pull starts at final assembly when a customer order is received and ends at your supplier location. Pull is accomplished through the use of a Kanban signal that represents an order from a downstream process to an upstream process for a specific quantity of quality parts or material to be delivered at an agreed upon time.
