“Even after being declared one of the country’s top 500 fastest-growing companies last year, Faye Stewart Transportation Service LLC still makes room for office mascot Hannah Turner, a 4-year-old blonde who trots around the office in a pink-and-silver cheerleading costume, showing off her oversize book.
Faye Stewart, 55, owner of the trucking brokerage company, has not only carved out a business in the male-dominated trucking and freighting industry but lets her Phoenix business reflect her beliefs that a business can be homelike, with a kitchen and kids.
Her 12 employees are free to bring their children, including Hannah, who is Stewart’s grand-niece. In the summer, an exercise room converts to a playroom. There is a fully stocked kitchen for employees and truck drivers who want a home-cooked meal. Stewart’s sister Barbara Murray runs a spa and salon next door.
