Unit Objectives
  • Understand the development history of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD).
  • Define the differences between the ICD and the ICD-9-CM (Clinical Modification).
  • Distinguish between ICD-10-CM (Clinical Modification) and ICD-10-PCS (Procedural Coding System).
  • Identify the developers, and cooperating parties, for the ICD-10, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS
  • Describe the four major objectives that guided the development of ICD-10, both -CM and PCS
